TANGHALANG ATENEO | SEASON 42

In times like these where we cannot physically be with each other, theater will have to temporarily give way to a new online way of telling a story. We will be exploring this new hybrid form of art which is no longer just theater, but a joint project with web programming, communications science, performance, and film, among others. Collaboration will be the heart of this season as we all collectively rise up to the challenge we are currently facing due to the pandemic. This season, Tanghalang Ateneo is keeping the fire alive by going online and digital.

Get ready for a year full of innovation and collaboration as we conquer this situation together and continue to pursue the arts. In these challenging times when our survival and our freedoms are on the line, we are all called to learn, adjust, change, restrategize, improvise, innovate — adapt. Join us!

Bahay Tanghalan is a festival of plays written and adapted to the Philippine context by aspiring writers. Student artists take center stage as they write, direct, design, and perform their own plays. For the first time, Tanghalang Ateneo is opening its doors to the Loyola Schools community as we promote nation-building and camaraderie amidst the pandemic.

“Makbetamaximus: Theatre of Destruction” is a play made up of several plays lovingly mashed up to create an incoherent hole.

One component of this is “29 Days of Sodomo Robotbot”. This has more than 60 actors, musicians, performance artists, poets, and dancers present a fractured mirror to interpret Macbeth in a performance that spans 29 days.
